PORCELAIN SHINO
Our porcelain shino pottery is glazed with a carbon-trap Sino glaze on top of a dense white porcelain clay body. The soda ash in the glaze migrates to the surface very soon after drying. Sometimes a wax resist is applied with a brush to preserve the original orange color. During the firing the soda ash attracts carbon from the reduction in the kiln’s atmosphere and traps it by melting around it, producing crystals, black sections, and a wide range of golds, tans and grays. The results are completely unpredictable, creating a unique glaze surface on each pot. There is no lead or toxic materials in the glaze, making it well suited for daily use and dishwasher and microwave safe.
PORCELAIN
Our porcelain pottery is wheel-thrown, trimmed and then carved using traditional Chinese carving tools along with other loop tools. The celadon and hagi glazes fill in the deep, carved places, giving the glaze a chance to pool and spill over.
