Remembering Louise March is the first of a series of books drawing on the personal memoirs of Louise March and some of her students. A student of G.I. Gurdjieff, Louise March founded the Rochester Folk Art Guild, “a community of people sharing the aim of working practically toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their purpose, based on the teaching of G.I. Gurdjieff.”
Some may say that people such as Mrs. March bring more to this earth in one lifetime than can be truly grasped or understood by most of us. There’s something remarkable about such people and their lives; something which words and thoughts will never be able to capture and write down. It’s like trying to answer the question “What is eternity?” when looking up at a sky full of stars. Some things have to be experienced to be understood.
The words in this book suffer from the same limitations, but hopefully some readers will find more than only words and pictures in these pages. Perhaps Mrs. March’s voice will be heard and what has been gathered here will take a small step towards fulfilling her wish for a book, “which might perhaps give its readers a small taste of the possibility of another way of living and an appetite for what Mr. Gurdjieff brought to this earth.”
