If you are for the unusual, the unique,or the one-of-a-kind, you will appreciate the craftwork of the
Rochester Folk Art Guild. After over forty years of working in crafts, the Guild continues to use traditional methods to make items from the unique
to the extraordinary in distinctive handcrafted pottery, wooden furniture and turnings, natural fiber clothing design, weaving,
educational wooden toys, note cards, and books.
Working together at East Hill Farm, the home of the Rochester Folk Art Guild, the members of the Guild
have chosen to work in the crafts, because it is "something outer which demands the kind of attention we need to work on the
inner." Searching for ways to work practically toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their purpose
in life the Guild members
find continual possibilities to experiment, to reach, and to learn about themselves through their routine daily activities
as well as the work in their crafts.
As a clay pot is shaped on the wheel, as the form of a wooden bowl takes shape on the lathe, or as meals are prepared in the kitchen, the members of the Guild are always being presented with ways to cultivate and nurture a special quality of attention to the moment; a practice which is grounded in the teachings and ideas of G.I. Gurdjieff. The Guild members find that their common aim and shared effort nourishes them and gives life to the crafts they produce.
